Cynosure
Laser Hair Removal
Information
on Cynosure Laser Brown Spot Removal
Laser treatments
for hair reduction is a minimally invasive means to remove unwanted hair from
the face, armpits, bikini areas, back and legs. The laser emits a specific
wavelength of light that targets the pigment in hair follicles. The light
is absorbed by the hair follicle. The absorbed light energy is converted to
heat energy, which disrupts the hair follicle. As a result, the capacity to
grow a new hair is disabled.
Best Candidates
The best candidates are for light-skinned patients with dark hair. Although
it is widely offered by other practitioners, laser hair treatments for blond,
grey, or white hairs are not affective. The addition of “hair stains”
for lighter color hairs is largely ineffective.
Planning your
procedure
In an initial consultation, your physician will determine if you are a good
candidate for laser hair treatments, based on your hair and skin type. You
will be asked to refrain from shaving or plucking the hair of the proposed
treatment areas for 2-3 days prior to the procedure and from use of a tanning
bed for one month prior to the procedure.
The procedure
After a skin preparation, you will undergo treatment with the CynosureTM
Apogee 5500 alexandrite laser. The duration of treatment varies based on the
areas to be treated. Typical treatments of the upper lip and chin take approximately
10-15 minutes. A whole back treatment may take up to 30 minutes. Most patients
describe the treatments as mild pin pricks or rubber band snaps to the skin.
To alleviate the sensations, a SmartCoolTM cooling system provides a cool
air jet to the treatment surface.
After the procedure
Typically patients experience some redness and a feeling of “razorburn”
or “windburn”. These typically subside within several hours to
one day after treatment. Hair grows in cycles. The laser is only effective
against hair follicles in an active phase of growth. As a result, multiple
treatments are usually required to catch the majority of hairs in the active
growth phase.
